Shifting narratives from fear and pity to solidarity and liberation.

Our programs amplify and support disabled leaders to achieve big political wins and shift narratives around disability and ableism in the United States.

Disability Culture Lab is a nonprofit media and narrative lab

We launch in 2024, and our programs will be launching throughout 2024 and 2025. We are hard at work building out many of these projects, so please sign up for our email list or reach out to stay in touch. Together, we will shift the narrative on disability in the U.S. from fear and pity to solidarity and liberation, and move the needle on ableism from indifference to action.

Our Programs

  • Disability Comms

High-level communications consulting for disabled leaders, organizations, and movements as well as organizations doing projects with a disability lens. From crisis communications and media relations to north star messaging support and campaign strategy and coaching a new media team, our talented and multi-faceted network of communications professionals are here to help.

  • Disability Hub

A new media and narrative hub focused on creative campaigning, media relations, culture projects, and policy change rolling out in 2024 and 2025. The disability hub will use tried and true strategies from across social movements to shift narratives on disability. DCL will work in partnership with existing coalitions, leaders, and advocates to achieve big political and cultural wins.

  • Disability Rising

Groundbreaking new fellowship launching in fall 2024 to elevate the media profiles of disabled leaders nationwide. The Disability Rising Fellowship program will build the public profiles of a new generation of brilliant multi-marginalized disabled leaders to shift narratives and activate big audiences for transformative change on disability and ableism.

  • Disability Source

A new resource coming fall 2024 for top disabled experts across issue areas to appear in the news and on TV at critical media moments. This program will map and support disabled experts across a diverse array of issues to be in the news when it counts. It will also assist journalists, bookers, producers, and other members of the press to include disability in any story. Every issue is a disability issue — from housing to climate to gun violence — and we’ll make it easier to find the right sources when it counts, on deadline.
